Lazy Sunday

Saturday morning I did one of the hardest workouts I’ve ever done! I joined an all women’s boot camp called Kaia from the recommendation from my best friend. She’s basically a walking advertisement for them because she’s always looked great but now she looks and feels AMAZING after joining Kaia (they even have a WordPress blog!) I have a lot coming up this summer and really wanted to get in great shape for everything, and since I won’t be running long distances for a while due to my foot injury, I thought this would be perfect. The six-week program doesn’t start until April 30th so I thought I’d go to a Saturday class to see what I was in for. I have never been so sore in.my.life. 3 days later and I can still barely sit down or bend over. If a program can make me THAT sore, I know it’s going to work.

Sunday morning I woke up and could barely move. So, I spent my day being lazy around the house and took a walk with my husband to stretch out my sore muscles in the afternoon. The weather wasn’t bad so I also spent a little time with my new macro lens in the backyard.

Spring Flowers

I took these photos last weekend when the sun was shining and everything seemed to be blooming. Now it’s rainy and gloomy outside so I thought this might brighten up the day.

Two Peas In A Pod

Like I said yesterday, my cousin is having fraternal twins and we spent Sunday at her beautiful baby shower in Monterey. Here are some details from the adorable baby-filled day!

#febphotoaday – A Month in Instagram Photos

This month I decided to participate in the #febphotoaday challenge on Instagram. I started a little late on Day 5, but I have since gone back and completed the first four days to finish up the month of February. I have never done a monthly, weekly, or daily challenge like this and I actually really enjoyed it. Some of my photos were (much) better than others, but either way, I still had fun. It forced me to capture a part of my daily life for a whole month and to find something creative or artistic in my usual activities.  I may do one in March as well :)

A Little Instagram Love

So I happen to be in love with the app Instagram. If you don’t use it, you should. It is a social networking site specifically for sharing your life in photos. You follow people, they follow you (just like twitter or Facebook) but all you post are photos. The app also has cool ways of making your photos look more interesting- borders, color effects, etc.  Because I love it so much, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite Instagram photos from the past year in case you haven’t seen them!

A Christmas Hike

Since I was about 13 we have been celebrating Christmas and opening all our gifts on Christmas Eve. The last few years we have been celebrating Christmas with my husband’s family a week in advance, which leaves us without plans on Christmas Day. So this year I figured we should do something a little different. We ended up driving a few hours to Point Reyes for a beautiful 8.2 mile hike. Most of the hike was green and full of  trees and wilderness until we ended up at a beautiful overlook of the ocean. This may have to be a new tradition! Here are some photos from the trip. You can click on the images to see more detail.

What non-traditional thing did you do for Christmas this year?

Maybe Santa Isn’t For Everyone….

By the looks of these photos you’d think we were torturing this poor child. All we were hoping for was one cute photo of little Ryan sitting on Santa’s lap, but as you can see, these were the best we got. My friend brought her little guy into work last week when Santa was going to be in the lobby of our building. As soon as she set him down on the old guy’s lap the crying began. She went over a few times to console him but as soon as she walked away it started again. Maybe next year we’ll get one with a smile?

A Day in The City

Last weekend I went to the bay area to visit a few friends. Saturday morning Brittany and I rode BART into the city for a day of photos and fun. We went to the farmer’s market and perused around the inside of the Ferry building for a few hours. There was delicious food everywhere and we had so much fun tasting samples and taking photos. The mushrooms were my favorite, I wanted to buy them all but didn’t have enough hands to carry everything! I can’t wait to visit again.

My Attempt At Bokeh

I love the idea of Bokeh with Christmas lights so I decided to play around a little to see what I could come up with. The shapes were the hardest for me because my house is SO dark, especially at night, which means all you can see are the lights and not the background or the tree at all. Even though those photos turned out a little strange, I still had fun getting my crafts out and creating them! At the bottom there are some photos of my best friends dog, Sydney.  My friend’s soon to be mother in law also bought her Christmas ornaments this year that look exactly like Sydney and her other dog Bailey so I just had to snap a few photos. I included them because there is a little light bokeh in the background. You can click on each image to get a closer look.

What have you done with Bokeh?

Lighting and Portraits

I have told you all before that I have taken a few basic photography classes to learn a little more about my camera and the art of photography. For some reason, lighting has always been the most difficult aspect of photography for me. I was really excited to take the lighting class to hopefully improve in that area and I think it really helped, although I have a long way to go to call myself “good” at lighting or photography. Here are a few photos I took for class (and a couple at the bottom that I took after class while trying to use what I learned). Tell me what you think! You can click on each image to make them larger.
