On The Coast

My husband and I had the best weekend celebrating our 2 year wedding anniversary on the Northern California Coast near Jenner, CA a few weekends ago. We stayed at a cute little hotel, called the Timber Cove Inn and had an amazing ocean view. We went hiking, wine tasting, listened to live music, ate a few delicious meals, and even roasted marshmallows for breakfast one morning. I loved this little mini vacation and I would go back any time!

The weather was perfect with no fog in sight until the day we left. This was just what we needed- a nice, relaxing weekend to be outdoors and have fun together.

If you go to Jenner, make sure you stop at Cafe Aquatica. It’s delicious! This was one of 4 different meals we tried there (we ate there for lunch two days in a row). Hummus sandwich may not sound all that great, but trust me, it was delish! And check out that view.

We found a wonderful place to wine taste- Fort Ross Winery. The tasting room was brand new, the view was spectacular and the people were wonderful. We would definitely go back!

A Beautiful Day in Napa

Northern California has some of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world. We are so lucky to live so close to so many beautiful places. A few weeks ago our friends took us to Napa to barrel taste their wine. They started a wine company, MSix Wine Group and are in the early stages of creating delicious wines. We drove to Napa for the day, toured the amazing wine cave where they are storing their wine, enjoyed salami and crackers while sharing a bottle of wine with a beautiful view, and then took a tour through the vineyards to see their wine grapes. It was a beautiful day in wine country and I was happy to capture some of the beauty with my photos.

Wine Tasting on the Water

Can you believe how beautiful this place is? A friend of mine told me she visited a winery in Lake County, CA that was absolutely beautiful. I was shocked to hear about this lakefront winery that I’ve never seen because my husband is from this particular area and I’ve visited there many times. The next time we visited we made it our mission to visit Ceago and see what it was all about.

The wine was delicious. I am not usually a big white wine drinker, but this Sauvignon Blanc was perfect on a hot summer day. We were told that Ceago is the only winery on a Lake in the state of California. It was so nice being able to boat right up to the winery! If you happen to be in the area, definitely visit Ceago. The setting is beautiful, the people are wonderful, and the wine is delicious. What more could you need?

How to: Throw a Fall Wine Tasting Party at Home

For my 26th birthday this year I decided to throw a wine tasting party at my house. I invited about 20 of my closest friends and bought some wine. Well, a lot of wine.

I headed to the nearest Marshalls and bought about 30 red and white inexpensive wine glasses and placed them on a fall table runner that I already had.

I also bought little paper name cards for the wine glasses so people wouldn’t misplace their glasses.

I bought inexpensive wine pourers for each bottle at Cost Plus.

And I placed floating candles (left-overs from my wedding) into small vases and glasses I already had with water and gold/orange beads.

My sister-in-law gave us three wine barrels that we were going to use for planters in our backyard. Before cutting them in half we realized they would be perfect for the party! I cleaned them up a little, covered them with fabric fall leaves, and placed snacks and wine on them in different places throughout the house.

We filled a decanter and placed it by the front door with some candles.

I had one more vase to fill so I put floating candles and beads in it with a few leaves and some water.

For food we had nuts (in large wine glasses), pretzels with macadamia nut mustard, salami and crackers, olives, bread with jalapeno olive oil and pomegranate balsamic vinegar, brie with pesto wrapped in baked  dough with crackers and lots of grapes!

I used more floating candles, beads, and wine corks for decor.

I also made a few little tasting note cards to place with the wine so people knew what to look for.

We played a blind wine tasting game that a friend gave me a few years back. We placed 10 bottles of wine in numbered bags and everyone wrote down tasting notes and tried to guess what they were drinking. This game way much harder than I imagined, but super fun!

For dessert we had port with lemon and red velvet cake pops (not homemade, I bought them here and they were delicious!) We also had brownie bites and chocolate pirouettes (from Costco).

The last photo is my husband and me enjoying the party. Don’t you just love his bowtie?

We set up a tri-pod with my camera on a timer so people could take their own photos, like our own little photo booth.

Fancy Schmancy

We are off to Cambria for the weekend to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We got engaged over 2 years ago on Pismo Beach so we thought it was only fitting to go stay somewhere nearby to celebrate our anniversary.

While we are there we plan on relaxing, going for long walks on the beach, wine tasting, going to nice dinners and oh yeah….we’re planning on hitting up a little black tie dinner soiree at the HEARST CASTLE! We were randomly invited through a contact at my work and we are now loading up our car with a tuxedo and a fancy schmancy gown. We were invited only yesterday, so to say we were  prepared would be a lie. But, we frantically got everything we needed together and are very much looking forward to an amazing dinner, with THE most amazing view in the area (even if we won’t know a single soul at the dinner). You better believe I’ll be blogging all about it when we get back, but until then, you can catch up on some “Adele” by reading old blog posts while I’m away. These are some of my faves:
